A client hospital of IntelliStaff Medical is hiring an Operating Room Registered Nurse Circulator for a full-time, permanent position in Ontario, Oregon.

Experienced Operating Room nurses and qualified new graduate Registered Nurses may be considered.

This opportunity includes TN visa assistance for qualified Canadian and Mexican Registered Nurses, along with Oregon licensing assistance for North American nurses.

You will work as a direct employee of the client hospital and receive the compensation, benefits and professional opportunities that come with permanent hospital employment.

Qualifications of an Operating Room RN Circulator

  • Active Oregon Registered Nurse licence or eligibility for state licensing assistance
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • NCLEX-RN successfully completed
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required at the time of hire
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification required within six months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required within six months of hire
  • Operating Room circulating or perioperative nursing experience preferred
  • Qualified new graduate Registered Nurses may be considered
  • Canadian or Mexican citizenship required for candidates seeking TN visa assistance
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and surgical safety practices is an asset
  • Strong assessment, organization and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to make sound clinical decisions in a fast-paced surgical environment
  • Strong communication, teamwork and documentation skills

Responsibilities and Duties of an Operating Room RN Circulator

  • Provide professional nursing care throughout the perioperative experience
  • Serve as the primary patient advocate during surgical procedures
  • Complete comprehensive physical and psychosocial patient assessments
  • Verify patient identity, surgical consent, planned procedure and operative site
  • Develop, implement and evaluate individualized perioperative nursing care plans
  • Participate in surgical time-outs and established patient-safety procedures
  • Coordinate surgical case flow and support efficient operating room preparation
  • Maintain a safe surgical environment
  • Monitor sterile technique and identify potential breaks in the sterile field
  • Complete and verify surgical counts according to hospital policy
  • Prepare and manage surgical equipment, instruments and supplies
  • Assist with safe patient positioning and pressure-injury prevention
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments
  • Evaluate patient responses to medications and clinical interventions
  • Collect, label and manage surgical specimens accurately
  • Document intraoperative care, medications, supplies and patient responses
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists and other clinical team members
  • Communicate relevant patient information during clinical handoffs
  • Provide nursing interventions to reduce pain and promote patient comfort
  • Use patient-care equipment safely and competently
  • Promote patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual well-being
  • Maintain therapeutic and professional boundaries
  • Use hospital resources and supplies responsibly
  • Follow hospital safety policies, professional standards and perioperative protocols
  • Practise according to the rules and regulations of the Oregon State Board of Nursing

About the Operating Room

The surgical services department provides perioperative care to patients undergoing a variety of inpatient and outpatient procedures.

Operating Room RN Circulators work closely with surgeons, anesthesia professionals, surgical technologists and other members of the interdisciplinary team to promote safe and efficient surgical care.

Clinical responsibilities may include:

  • Preoperative patient assessment and preparation
  • Intraoperative patient advocacy
  • Surgical safety verification
  • Sterile-field monitoring
  • Patient positioning and injury prevention
  • Medication and specimen management
  • Documentation of surgical care and supplies
