Qualifications of a Behavioural Health RN

• Active Idaho or multistate Registered Nurse licence or eligibility for state licensing assistance
• Registered Nurses moving to Idaho from another compact state must apply for licensure by endorsement and update their primary state of residence within 60 days of hire
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
• NCLEX-RN successfully completed
• Recent behavioural health, psychiatric, mental health or acute-care nursing experience preferred
• Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required at the time of hire
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support or Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification may be accepted in place of Basic Life Support
• Additional unit-specific certifications may be required
• Crisis prevention, de-escalation or non-violent intervention training is an asset
• Canadian or Mexican citizenship required for candidates seeking TN visa assistance

Responsibilities of a Behavioural Health RN

• Provide professional nursing care to patients experiencing psychiatric and behavioural health conditions
• Complete and document comprehensive physical, mental health and psychosocial assessments
• Assess patients for suicide risk, self-harm, aggression and other safety concerns
• Develop, implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
• Monitor patients’ physical health, behaviour, mood and response to treatment
