About the Labor and Delivery RN Position
As a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse, you will work alongside obstetricians, anesthesia professionals, neonatal specialists and other dedicated clinical professionals to provide safe, respectful and evidence-based maternity care.
Registered Nurses support patients and families throughout labour, delivery and immediate recovery. The maternity team follows evidence-based protocols while respecting individual needs, cultural backgrounds and birth preferences whenever clinically appropriate.
Registered Nurses may also provide coverage at another maternity centre within the Boise metropolitan area based on patient-care and operational needs.

Qualifications of a Labor and Delivery RN
- Active Idaho Registered Nurse licence required before starting employment
- Registered Nurses practising under a multistate licence must notify the Idaho Board of Nursing within 60 days of establishing Idaho residency
- Oregon Registered Nurse licence or proof of application required within 90 days of hire
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- NCLEX-RN successfully completed
- Minimum one year of recent inpatient nursing experience strongly preferred
- Previous Labor, Delivery, Recovery and Postpartum nursing experience preferred
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification required or obtained within six months of hire
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification required or obtained within six months of hire
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required or obtained within one year of hire
- S.T.A.B.L.E. Program certification required or obtained within one year of hire
- National Certification Corporation Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification required or obtained within one year of hire
- Canadian or Mexican citizenship required for candidates seeking TN visa assistance
- Strong maternal, fetal and newborn assessment skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary maternity-care team
Responsibilities of a Labor and Delivery RN
- Provide evidence-based nursing care throughout labour, delivery and immediate recovery
- Complete comprehensive physical and psychosocial patient assessments
- Assess and monitor maternal and fetal conditions
- Interpret fetal heart-rate patterns and promptly communicate concerning changes
- Develop, implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
- Support patients experiencing low-risk and high-risk pregnancies
- Administer prescribed medications, IV therapies and obstetrical treatments
- Assist physicians and other maternity professionals during vaginal deliveries
- Prepare patients for scheduled or emergency Caesarean deliveries
- Circulate or assist within obstetrical operating rooms according to training and assigned responsibilities
- Respond to maternal, fetal and newborn emergencies
- Provide immediate newborn assessment and neonatal resuscitation when required
- Monitor patients for postpartum haemorrhage, hypertension, infection and other complications
- Assess newborn health, feeding, temperature regulation and transition after delivery
- Support parent-newborn bonding and breastfeeding
- Educate patients and families about labour, delivery, recovery and newborn care
- Respect individual birth plans and personal preferences when clinically appropriate
- Collaborate with obstetricians, neonatal professionals and anesthesia teams
- Document maternal, fetal and newborn assessments accurately
- Follow hospital safety policies, evidence-based protocols and professional nursing standards
- Practise according to the requirements of the applicable state boards of nursing
