Operating Room RN Salary and Shift Differentials

Starting compensation is $31.00 USD per hour, with actual pay based on relevant nursing experience, qualifications and the hospital’s compensation structure.

• Evening Differential: Additional $1.50 per hour for qualifying evening shifts between 3:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. A minimum of four hours during this period is required.
• Night Differential: Additional $6.00 per hour for eligible night shifts between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
• Weekend Differential: Additional $4.00 per hour for eligible Saturday and Sunday shifts.
• Sign-On Bonus: Available for qualifying OR RN positions.
• Relocation Assistance: Up to $7,500 USD for eligible candidates.

Operating Room Registered Nurse Responsibilities

As an Operating Room RN, you will provide safe, patient-centred nursing care before, during and after surgical procedures while collaborating with surgeons, anaesthesia providers and other members of the perioperative team.

• Perform preoperative nursing assessments and review patient histories, diagnostic results and surgical care plans.
• Prepare operating rooms, instruments, equipment and supplies for scheduled procedures.
• Perform circulating nurse responsibilities throughout surgical procedures.
• Complete surgical safety checklists and verify patient identification, procedures and surgical sites.
• Position and prepare patients for surgery while maintaining comfort, dignity and safety.
• Maintain sterile technique and follow established infection prevention and patient safety protocols.
• Monitor patients and respond promptly to changes in clinical condition.
• Administer prescribed medications and nursing interventions within the RN scope of practice.
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, anaesthesia providers, surgical personnel and patients’ families.
• Document nursing assessments, treatments, interventions and patient outcomes accurately.
• Assist with surgical equipment maintenance, supply management and departmental readiness.
• Participate in surgical emergency coverage and assigned on-call rotations.
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and nursing-sensitive quality indicators.
• Support and mentor colleagues and newly hired nursing staff when appropriate.
• Float to similar clinical units when required and appropriately qualified.

Operating Room RN Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Registered Nursing programme.
• Eligible for an active South Carolina RN licence or qualifying multistate nursing licence.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within six months of hire where required.
• Previous operating room, surgical nursing or perioperative experience preferred.
• Strong clinical assessment, communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary surgical environment.
• Willingness to participate in scheduled on-call coverage.

New graduate Registered Nurses may be considered for select Operating Room positions.

Requirements for Canadian and Mexican Registered Nurses

International applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Hold Canadian or Mexican citizenship.
• Have successfully passed the NCLEX-RN examination.
• Meet South Carolina RN licensing requirements.
• Hold or be eligible to obtain an appropriate healthcare worker certification, such as VisaScreen.
• Meet applicable TN visa eligibility and documentation requirements.
• Be willing to relocate to South Carolina for permanent employment.

Operating Room RN Work Schedule

• Full-time positions ranging from 72 to 80 hours bi-weekly, depending on the facility.
• Primarily Monday to Friday day schedules at select locations.

• Weekend and after-hours coverage may be required when on call.
