About the Infusion Therapy RN Position

Qualifications of an Infusion Therapy RN

• Active Idaho or multistate Registered Nurse licence or eligibility for state licensing assistance
• Registered Nurses practising under a multistate licence must establish Idaho residency within 60 days of hire
• Graduate of an accredited nursing program
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
• NCLEX-RN successfully completed
• Recent infusion therapy, IV therapy, oncology, medical-surgical or acute-care nursing experience preferred
• Qualified new graduate Registered Nurses may be considered
• Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required at the time of hire
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support or Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification may be accepted in place of Basic Life Support
• Additional unit-specific certifications may be required
• Infusion Nurses Certification Corporation certification is an asset
• Oncology Nursing Society chemotherapy and biotherapy certification is an asset when applicable to assigned responsibilities
• Canadian or Mexican citizenship required for candidates seeking TN visa assistance

Responsibilities of an Infusion Therapy RN

• Provide professional nursing care to patients receiving infusion treatments
• Complete and document comprehensive physical and psychosocial assessments
• Review treatment orders, laboratory results, allergies and relevant medical history
• Develop, implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
• Establish peripheral IV access and assess existing vascular-access devices
• Access, maintain and de-access central venous access devices according to training and policy
• Administer prescribed IV medications, hydration and other infusion therapies
• Administer blood products according to clinical protocols
• Administer antineoplastic or biologic therapies when appropriately trained, certified and assigned
• Monitor patients before, during and after infusion treatments
• Recognize signs of allergic, anaphylactic or other adverse infusion reactions
• Initiate emergency interventions and notify the appropriate clinical professionals
• Evaluate treatment effectiveness and patient responses
• Provide pain-management and comfort interventions
• Educate patients and families about treatments, medications and possible side effects
• Provide instructions about vascular-access care and symptoms requiring medical attention
• Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, laboratory professionals and other clinical team members
• Coordinate treatment appointments and continuity of care
