Full-Time Permanent Position

IntelliStaff Medical is seeking a Registered Nurse for a full-time, permanent position in a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit at a hospital in the Boise area of Idaho.

This opportunity includes TN visa assistance for qualified Canadian and Mexican Registered Nurses, as well as Idaho licensing assistance for North American nurses.

Qualifications of a PACU Registered Nurse

  • Active Idaho Registered Nurse licence or eligibility for state licensing assistance
  • Registered Nurses practising under a multistate licence must establish Idaho residency within 60 days of hire
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
  • NCLEX-RN successfully completed
  • Current Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required at the time of hire
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification required within six months of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification required within six months of hire
  • Recent PACU, critical care, emergency or perioperative nursing experience preferred
  • Canadian or Mexican citizenship required for candidates seeking TN visa assistance
  • Strong patient-assessment, airway-management and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to recognize and respond to postoperative complications
  • Strong communication, documentation and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities and Duties of a PACU RN

  • Provide nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures
  • Receive patients from the Operating Room and review surgical and anesthesia handoff information
  • Complete comprehensive physical and psychosocial patient assessments
  • Continuously monitor patients’ airway, breathing, circulation and level of consciousness
  • Assess vital signs, pain levels, surgical sites and responses to anesthesia
  • Recognize and respond promptly to postoperative complications
  • Support airway management and initiate emergency interventions when required
  • Administer prescribed medications, IV therapies and postoperative treatments
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of pain-management and nausea-control interventions
  • Develop, implement and evaluate individualized nursing care plans
  • Determine patient readiness for discharge or transfer to the appropriate level of care
  • Communicate patient status and care plans to physicians, anesthesia professionals and other caregivers
  • Educate patients and families about postoperative care, medications and recovery instructions
  • Provide age-appropriate care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients, as applicable
  • Document patient assessments, medications, treatments, supplies and clinical outcomes accurately
  • Operate patient-monitoring and recovery equipment safely
  • Maintain therapeutic and professional boundaries
  • Follow hospital safety policies, infection-prevention practices and professional nursing standards
  • Practise according to the rules and regulations of the Idaho Board of Nursing

About the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit

The Post-Anesthesia Care Unit provides close monitoring and specialized nursing care to patients recovering from general, regional and procedural anesthesia.

PACU Registered Nurses work closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, Operating Room nurses and other clinical professionals to support safe recovery and timely transitions of care.

Clinical responsibilities may include:

  • Post-anesthesia assessment and monitoring
  • Airway and respiratory management
  • Postoperative pain management
  • Nausea and vomiting prevention and treatment
  • Surgical-site and drain assessment
  • Identification of postoperative complications
  • Patient stabilization and emergency intervention
  • Preparation for discharge or transfer to an inpatient unit
